We Did It!
We made a 6 hour trip in the truck with kids
without killing each other!!
When we started this site I was all ready to plan the trip of my dreams (Glacier National Park), but once my husband saw the idea coming to life (hardly close to real life) he stopped me to point out the fact that it is 16 hours away (one way). He then pointed out the fact that we have 5 kids who would not do a ride like that very well at their current ages. So, I will be putting my travels to Glacier National Park on the back burner.
There are tons of amazing places to go camping in Wisconsin, so instead of the beautiful mountains I ventured out to take my family to the great getaway known as Door County, WI.
Are there Bears in Door County?
First Potty Break… By Daddy…
I don’t know about Bears, but there are a ton of Cows along the way!
I was really looking forward to seeing Green Bay, WI. I was pretty sure I would see Aaron Rodgers staying on the side of the road doing his Discount Double Check move, but all I saw was road construction. I was highly disappointed.
Where are We All Going?
I made the choice to break up our drive by stopping half way and staying at the Grand Lodge Waterpark in Wausau, WI. The kids walked into the lobby area and I am not kidding all of them were freaking out jumping up and down!
The next day we only had 2 hours and 40 some minutes left to get to our campground, Frontier Wilderness. Ryan and I planned on a non-stop trip so the family would have time to enjoy the campground pool and mini golf before sunset. During the drive, Jadis made up a new car game called “This is Silly, That is Not Silly”. We would go around sharing what we thought was silly or not. It was a fun game and some of the comments made us laugh!
Jadis’ New Car Game –
Making sure I kept the group going at a good pace we made a pit-stop at Renards Cheese.
Say CHEESE!
Renards Cheese had a wonderful outdoor play set with a nice sitting area where we were able to stretch out our legs before going the rest of the way to Frontier Wilderness Campground.
The shade was relaxing and the Wine Tasting was FREE.
Before taking off we cooled down with some ice cream and Keegan bought himself a bag of WI string cheese to share.
After a couple of days with a lot of miles the kiddos were super excited to be able to jump in the pool at our campground!
This is the Life!
Check back soon to read about our campground, the hotel and all that we did while on our vacation to Door County.
Happy Camping, Kelly
